Genderside In Action

I guess we shouldn't really be surprised. Since when does a woman refer to the "sex of the pregnancy"? Convenient euphemisms....

U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Rules DOMA Unconstitutional...

In the latest "I want to punch myself in the face" moment, the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional. An excerpt from an article reads, "The appeals court agreed with a lower court judge who ruled in 2010 that the law is unconstitutional because it interferes with the right of a state to define marriage and denies married gay couples federal benefits given to heterosexual married couples, including the ability to file joint tax returns."

Herein lies the problem- no state has the right or the power to redefine marriage. No state has the right or the power to redefine what constitutes life. We as humans can play games and pretend we have this power but we do not. Widespread acceptance of homosexual behavior or abortion doesn't make it right or inherently good. The truth is not decided upon by popular vote.

Where does this end? If a state or a people think they can redefine marriage to include men with men and women with women, it won't stop there. Why not one man with three women? Why not a woman and a horse? Why not? If the argument is, "I feel really strongly about this and I want it" who is to stop that? If there is no appeal to a higher knowledge and guidance, then we as people will just do whatever "feels" right and villainize whomever gets in our way of what "we want."

We must return to reason and common sense. What is the purpose of marriage? This is a question I think most people today do not know the answer to. Marriage needs restoration, not redefinition. Marriage as we know it today is broken for many reasons. The attack on the family is fierce and the temptation to leave a commitment when things get hard is always a challenge.

What does marriage symbolize? Is it just two people who happen to like each other and want to hang out together for the rest of their lives? Is it a relationship of convenience or fun? Is it just a commitment to bring new people into the world? Is it a contract or a covenant? Why get married? Because of strong feelings? or does marriage speak to something far beyond this world and into eternity?

Marriage is a covenant, an exchange of persons- a complete self gift of one to the other. It is a fruitful and life-giving covenant. It speaks to the fecundity and commitment of how God loves us. As we see a strong marriage- we see a man and woman, giving themselves to one another in good times and in hard times, when it is convenient and fun and when it is inconvenient and difficult.

We see them welcoming children even when it is a hard decision and striving to bring one another to heaven. This relationship images the intimacy and commitment in which God loves us. He loves us and fights for us and seeks to become one with us.

In His creation of man and woman, God reveals a call to oneness, love and life. There is no substitute for this. Marriage is not about this life only, it foreshadows the beautiful intimacy of heaven. The openness to life is paramount in the relationship. God is a God of life. He is living. Death has no part of Him. Much of the struggle in marriage today is a wide-spread acceptance of contraception and a deep immaturity in the human person.

One of my friends, a marriage and family therapist, commented once that men and women get married, not little boys and little girls. And much of the problem with my generation is that we are often very immature. We are in many ways like little boys and little girls in adult bodies. We come from a lot brokenness in our own families and in our woundedness we make poor decisions.

Instead of seeking healing and integration, which is readily and openly available, we want beliefs and God to change. We want what we want. And we are reaping the fruits of our own immaturity.

The Supreme Court could legalize gay marriage and marriage to horses and polygamy all they want but it won't fix the problem because "discrimination" isn't the problem. The problem is the ancient struggle with sin and disorder.

Nothing new.

It's not until we are honest with our struggles and seek personal healing and holiness in Jesus that things will begin to change.

"A Progressive Society Being Good Without gods" and Other Nonsense...

The American Humanist Association is giving a coveted (really?) humanist award to 16-year-old Jessica Ahlquist this year at the 71st Annual AMA Conference.

Ahlquist is the young woman leading a charge to have a prayer mural removed in her high school as well as advocating the removal World War I and II memorial crosses., what an achievement.

Not to be outdone though are other award recipients such as Gloria Steinem who will receive a "Humanist of the Year" award and another teenaged young man who will receive a "Freedom From Religion" award.

Now, I could be wrong here, but it seems to me that the humanist movement wears a convenient cover of people being nice to other people without the "interference" of God. Apparently the idea of "inevitable progress" is something they firmly grasp onto.

But if we can look a bit more closely, we see that this is an empty facade. For example, the "Humanist of the Year" Steinem, published a picture of her smiling self wearing a t-shirt that reads, "I had an abortion" and she is shaping her hands into a triangle-- commonly manifested as a masonic gesture. This, of course, would make sense because free-masons believe in the "triumph" of the human person without God. (as if there is such a thing)

Looking at Steinem's T-shirt, which she seems to proudly wear, we see that she is proclaiming her deed of murder and seems to have no qualms about it. Interesting. I thought humanists were promoting the triumph of the human person? Well maybe just not little people....or inconvenient people....or people that reveal the call of eternal beatitude...hmm. What kind of "triumph" is that?

But this is nothing new. This "progressive" idea has been around for quite some time. No one is on the cutting edge of new thought or new actions here. The rejection of God has been around since Lucifer waged a losing battle. Been there, done that.

The human heart is difficult to understand and navigate. Within all of us, we bear light and darkness, goodness and sin. Many times we do not understand why we do what we do and we often think we are pursuing a good that actually turns out to be poison.

Humanism and religious fanaticism are both untrue but at opposite ends of the spectrum. Neither the removal of God nor the self-righteous adherence to rules will save us or bring peace. It's only when we encounter the living God-- Jesus, the Word made Flesh, that we receive life and light. Jesus is not figment of our imagination- we cannot make Him into our likeness. He is not a pacifistic, permissive persona nor is he a condemning, fear-mongering deity. Jesus is who He is and we must come to know Him- in the words He speaks, in the way He lives and what He has passed on to us throughout the centuries of time.

Denying God is not living on the edge or courageous. In the end, it's just a waste of time...

Miley Cyrus Misses the Mark (And the Neckline As Well)...

Miley Cyrus (most popularly known from her Disney sitcom, Hannah Montana) appeared on a talk show yesterday speaking about the importance of parents talking to their children about sex.

"It’s ignorant not to talk to your kids about it or [not] make it seem as magical or cool as it actually is,” she said.

Good point, Miley. Parents are the first and primary educators of their children and their lives stand as a powerful instrument of formation.

Miss Cyrus then goes on to say, "The girls that really base how much they’re worth on the sexual favors they can do for somebody, that makes me really sad...your worth isn’t based on [sex]," she added. "Your worth is based on how you feel about yourself.”

Okay, here is the issue. And this is why it rings untrue coming from this 19-year-old girl who showed up to the Billboard Music Awards on Sunday only wearing a white jacket. Yes, that's it. Only a jacket. No pants, no shirt underneath. Everything was on display. This is a problem because it reveals a deeper issue.

Miley mentions that a person's worth isn't based on sex and that is true. When we as women especially try to find our value in how sexually available or attractive we are, we sell ourselves out and destroy ourselves in the process. We are not made to be the sexual play toys of others.

But her line of thought is deeply flawed when she says, "Your worth is based on how you feel about yourself." This is completely untrue. Our worth is based on far more than that and goes far beyond our feelings.

And isn't this flawed thought process really the reason why we as women dress so immodestly, because deep within we are afraid of being unlovable and being abandoned, so we trade our true beauty for a few moments of shallow affirmation?

Our worth is based on the truth that we are created by God and that He delights in us. He wills us into being through the glorious coming together of man and woman. It is He who gives life and creates so intimately. There is nothing that can take away His love for us and no one can give us the dignity we so deeply crave. That dignity is a gift from God and he reveals it to us on a deeper level whenever we turn to Him.

Our feelings come and go, they pass like the wind. We as human beings are eternal. Yes, the marital embrace is magical, it is ecstatic- a going out of oneself- within this covenant of marriage. It is a work between a husband and wife where fear and shame are expelled and joy and authentic love become the hallmarks of the union.

This type of union isn't found outside of the covenant of marriage because the grace is not present. The physical pleasure may be found outside the covenant but it leaves the person starving, thirsty and bereft of true life.

We as women cannot buy into the lie that feelings and small articles of clothing will bring us value and worth.

We long for more and we deserve better.

Government Lawsuit

Several Catholic institutions filed lawsuits against the government today regarding the contraceptive mandate being forced upon the insurance plans of Catholic organizations.

Please remember, the contraceptive mandate is not really about contraception. It's been cleverly buried in this controversial topic. The issue regarding the mandate is the government forcing the Church to pay for something that violates conscience.

"World's Ugliest Woman"?

When I saw the title of this article "World's Ugliest Woman", it made me cringe. I was thinking, "Who has given her this title and has she somehow agreed to it?" But as I read the article, it is clear that this woman, Lizzie Velasquez, isn't ugly at all. She is just as God has allowed her to be- in all her radiance.

She is probably stronger than most people will ever hope to be.

God bless her-

Give Your Heart A Break...

I heard this song a couple of times today and I like the lyrics. I think in a certain way (go with me on this one) that these words are along the lines of something Jesus speaks to our hearts. How often we have been disappointed in relationships and we think God will reject us like many other people have. But He isn't like that, He isn't like the rest, so to speak.

He wants to give us a place to rest, to give our heart a break.

California to Ban Reparative Therapy?

Lawmakers in California are considering a ban on any kind of therapy on minors that seeks to help those with same-sex attraction repair their attractions and life-style. Read the article here

Talk about an attack on free speech and freedom of choice- This is crazy and if this law passes, it will be a disaster for millions of people. Can we not see what is going on here? a constriction of truth for those who suffer. Banning reparative therapy won't make guilt and shame go away. Affirming people in their wounds doesn't heal anything.

The bill's author, Ted Lieu (D) had this to say about the issue: attempts to pathologize and change people’s sexual orientation should be treated akin to smoking and drinking: harmful activities that adults can choose to participate in, but children cannot. “We let adults do all sorts of stupid and risky things, but we ban dangerous things for young people.”

These words do not even make sense. Why does he equate a healing therapy with being stupid and risky rather than homosexual sex being stupid and risky?

This is sad indeed.

Government Issues a Study of Studies

This article made me laugh! It's hard when you have so many studies that you have to issue another study to study those studies.

Abortion = Big Business

Think abortion is a private matter between a woman and her doctor with no greed for profit?

Think again. It's an evil, sadistic money-making business.

The article below is not for the faint of heart but gives an insight into the many "uses" of abortion. Sick, indeed.

May God have mercy on them.

Kate Upton: Beauty Gone Ugly

Sports Illustrated cover model, Kate Upton, has been in the news quite a bit lately. The 19-year-old bombshell scored the coveted swimsuit issue cover, appeared in a movie as a nun (oh, the irony) and then recently had a video of herself, uh...dancing, reinstated by youtube. Triumph of the beautiful woman? Is this the revelation of the truly beautiful or is it grasping for attention? (and as an aside, where is her father? What is her dad doing?)

Let's review the facts. The world worships physical beauty. If you are physically attractive, the world pays you special attention and then proceeds to worship you. What is this attraction to physical beauty? It speaks to something much deeper. It is really a longing for heaven. As we live on earth, we are given glimpses of eternity and beauty (especially in a woman) is a glimpse of heaven. But what happens when beauty goes ugly?

Upton competed with many other attractive women to win the prize as the cover model on this year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit (read: hardly wearing anything) Issue. The blond beauty is featured on the cover (photoshopped, no doubt, but still beautiful) gazing luringly into the eyes of all who pass by. Scoring the cover of a magazine like that gets one a lot of attention.

From there, Upton is featured in the movie The Three Stooges. She is cast as a nun. A bikini-clad nun wearing a black veil. Many people in Catholic circles condemned the producers of the movie for including such an offensive scene. My issue didn't lay with the producers as much as my disappointment in the female gender. Why would such a beautiful woman waste her gift and give it over to something so ugly? For attention? Fame? I bet it's something much deeper.

The latest sorrow in this trilogy is Upton's recent video that was initially banned by youtube. It features a scantily-clad Upton dancing to a popular song. It was so indecent that youtube banned it, citing it to be a violation of their nudity policy. It was later re-instated, and youtube apologized for the incident. Apparently since she wasn't actually naked, they couldn't ban it. The video and controversy sent Upton's star into the upper stratosphere of fame. But is it true beauty? I say no.

I guess when I see Kate Upton, I see a young woman who doesn't really believe she is truly beautiful. I see a young woman who is giving herself up to be lusted over by men and she will be ultimately used up, chewed up and spit out when her "worth" is consumed. I see a little girl who is looking for attention.

True beauty is something that is life-giving. When visionaries see Our Lady, they weep over how beautiful she is. She is full of grace. She is lovely. Archbishop Fulton Sheen says that she is the woman all women want to be. A woman full of grace- the divine peak of beauty. Beauty isn't meant to be devoured and squandered, it's meant to be uplifting and eternal.

My prayer for Kate Upton is that one day she uses her beauty to heal the hearts of men, rather than destroy them. I pray that one day she realizes that the depths of her beauty comes not from her youthful and shapely figure but from the essence of her soul. May Jesus embrace her beauty and fill the empty places of her heart.

God bless you, Kate.

May the Fourth Be With You....

Happy Star Wars Day :)

Sean Hannity Blasts Occupy Organizer

Sean Hannity blasted occupy organizer Harrison Schultz yesterday in an interview on his show.

Interesting how when certain priests were accused within the Catholic church, the mainstream media tried to pin that crime on every priest and celibacy itself. Yet, when the occupy movement does horrible and violent things....well, it's just not their fault nor representative of what they are really about. Spare me.
