It is with a heavy and incredulous heart that I post the news that our beloved Father, Fr. Santan Pinto, died suddenly in a car accident after just arriving for a home visit in India. Apparently, Fr. Pinto was the passenger in a car that was struck and he died instantly. A Bishop in India, the Bishop of Belgaum, has contacted our community and confirmed this sorrowful news. Fr. Pinto's funeral will be tomorrow in India. It's interesting, you know, after just posting Father's Christmas message yesterday and then posting the clip by Fr. Barron about the true nature of Advent, we never know when God will take us home. The media and secular society loves to mock celibacy and the priesthood but it's easy to see that Fr. Pinto has more spiritual children than those people ever will. God will not be mocked. Father was a priest who was faithful to the end, who loved God more than anything and made countless sacrifices for his many spiritual children. To say that he will b...

Listened to Glenn Beck on the way to work this morning.
His topic was stopping food stamps from being 'Sexy' and making sure the people who get them feel ashamed and uncomfortable. Stop giving handouts to a bunch of 'hippies' who dont want to work.
It is a difficult time to find work out there and I have not heard of too many on Food Stamps who think it is Sexy and arent uncomfortable and ashamed already.
He wants the Churches to minister to the needs of the poor. The Catholic Church in particular does great charitable work but I dont see it as being enough.
I know you know your Matthew. It is not Leviticus but relevant:
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
So far this guy has not told the Truth and I suspect would have a rough reckoning so far. I will keep listening.
Yesterday's show was not as objectionable - at least as a Christian. He was all over President Obama for allowing Egypt to elect Islamists who will likely not be strong allies to the US.
I am not sure that persecuting other religions is such a good thing, but as an American it seems hypocritical to expect our government to intervene on another country's democratic process.
It is not America's job to impose Jeffersonian Democracy and Christianity on other Free nations.
It would be interesting to see the numbers on how many military installations and troops the US has outside of our borders - compared to the same numbers for the rest of the world combined.
So I am not a fan of American Imperialism and garrisoning the world to 'protect our interest'. Costs too much for an inappropriate purpose.
But I cant say that it is an issue of faith.
I did appreciate the irony of playing (a pretty good) song called "I am my brother's keeper" immediately before ripping into the Affordable Health Care stuff. But nothing truly objectionable.
He had a clergy man (non-Catholic) on the show today. They talked about Obama's Campaign Against Women. (?)
I have started to adopt a practice of changing channels between 770 and 1090 whenever the on air personality calls the other "liars" or "Nazi's".
We have some serious issues of substance that usually center around tradeoffs. So people see things through different lenses. Yes there is a lot of spin, selective reporting, omission, distortion, over simplifying, and personal agenda's - Power, ratings, money, etc. But not much outright lying. Most people, politicians and pundits arent liars. Or Nazi's.
Using these labels diminishes us and the others.
FYI - I think Conservative Radio has figured this out. The mantra is that they 'speak the truth'. Yes there is an implied contrast with the left, but it is much more civil and acceptable way to make the point.
