So, whatever happened to Christmas?

Okay, so after hearing so much controversy over the use of the word "Christmas", i thought you might find this interesting. One of my friends was telling me that at his place of work (which shall remain nameless) one of the employees crossed out "Christ" in Christmas that was written on a chalkboard and replaced it with an "X" as in, Xmas. Yikes.

I guess we really don't understand from where we have come and to where are going at the end of our life (hopefully to heaven). So many people see God as an obstacle to their lives instead of a cornerstone. I remember seeing this one movie where the lead character makes a "prayer" to God in these words, "God, you don't have to help me but don't get in my way." holy cow. We'd be in a lot of trouble if God ever got out of our way.

Be sure to wish someone a "Merry Christmas."

Little did this person know that the "X" in "Xmas" is actually the Greek letter "chi" which stands for Christ.
See this article for a full definition. Ha! The joke's on him/her. Just goes to show that you can try to cover up Christ, but he is always there.

I've always stuck with "Merry Christmas" I was so mad when I heard about it in ASL (American Sign Language) Class last week...

Fr. Santan Pinto, SOLT 1948-2011

It is with a heavy and incredulous heart that I post the news that our beloved Father, Fr. Santan Pinto, died suddenly in a car accident after just arriving for a home visit in India. Apparently, Fr. Pinto was the passenger in a car that was struck and he died instantly. A Bishop in India, the Bishop of Belgaum, has contacted our community and confirmed this sorrowful news. Fr. Pinto's funeral will be tomorrow in India. It's interesting, you know, after just posting Father's Christmas message yesterday and then posting the clip by Fr. Barron about the true nature of Advent, we never know when God will take us home. The media and secular society loves to mock celibacy and the priesthood but it's easy to see that Fr. Pinto has more spiritual children than those people ever will. God will not be mocked.
