Misty and Kerri Win Gold; I Cry My Eyes Out...

As much as the tiny little bikinis worn by most of the women beach volleyball players irked me to the  very end, I freely admit that I cried my eyes out watching Misty May and Kerri Walsh win an unprecedented third gold medal in Olympic beach volleyball.

It was beautiful to watch them continue to battle every opponent and never give up. They never gave up no matter what the score was. It was inspiring to behold.

All those years of work, sacrifice and struggle paid off in every way possible. Misty and Kerri will probably go down as the best beach volleyball team in the history of the game. Amazing. God bless them.

I saw a statistic that one of the Chinese players in the bronze medal match worked out four hours a day, six days a week, 50 weeks a year....for the past 10 years. That's the kind of work it takes to be a successful Olympic athlete.

Imagine if we spent that much time in prayer and serving others!

I don't have your e-mail, so I'll just comment here. Why do people, even some religious, think it's okay to be Catholic and disagree with the Church's millennia old teachings? And since when does support of the people make anything right? ie http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2012/08/09/13198880-were-with-you-sisters-nuns-amazed-by-outpouring-of-support?lite

The media just doesn't 'get' that religion isn't a democracy.

Which Teachings are included as a litmus test for Catholicism? I know of good Catholics who disagree with the teachings of Teresa of Avila and St Ignatius. I was an Altar Boy praying the Latin Mass when Pope John XXIII questioned and discarded some of the millenia old teachings.

There are some things that define Catholicism. And a lot of 'teachings' that simply reflect individuals' reflections and ideas. I carry a keychain of St Faustina's image of Jesus, and it reminds me that it is part of our duty as Catholics to question, disagree, or even challenge the Church's teachings.

As for Beach VB - I didnt cry my eyes out but absolutely agree with you! Making the players parade around like strippers demeans them, the game and the spectators. And it tends to hide the effort, dedication and spirit required to stay on top for that long!

Congratulations, Misty and Kerri!! Now put some clothes on!!

What's even more wonderful is that Misty May was (unknowingly) several weeks pregnant at the time of the Olympics.
